When my daughter asked if we could redecorate her room, I was so excited for the challenge. She needed a teen bedroom makeover! We knew she needed more storage and she asked for gold accents. We had lots of fun combing through Pinterest for fun ideas.
The Bed
We found a Captain’s bed at a local furniture store and I decided to try building it, we love how it turned out. You can get more details on that project HERE.
The Seating
My daughter had a Huggle Pod, like this one from Amazon (https://amzn.to/355Plv2) that she had long outgrown. The idea of adding a hanging chair is just plain fun! The one we chose (from Pier 1 linked here). She loves the storage on the sides and this is her go-to reading spot. Sometimes I even love to come sit in it and relax! It’s the perfect addition to her new teen bedroom!
We bought this heavy duty swivel hook from Amazon (https://amzn.to/2S2XuL5) to hang the chair from the ceiling joists.
The next seating is for her desk. We found this wooden swivel desk chair for $20 on Facebook Marketplace. We recovered the seat with some fun fabric and painted the chair a beautiful gold color. I love Modern Masters metallic paint and top coat. This color is called Gold Rush and can be bought on Amazon (https://amzn.to/3cXj3Fh). Their top coat is super durable and provides a nice smooth finish. I also buy this from Amazon (https://amzn.to/2Y4VmX6).

Wall Decor
We decorated her blank wall with vintage travel posters from pleases she’s visited, she can’t wait to take her next trip and hang another poster on the wall. The frames are from Amazon (https://amzn.to/2VCk1AA) and come in several different sizes.
She already had this vintage mirror we had found at an antique store, we spray painted it and her dresser handles to match the gold theme. A decorator I follow used this spray paint from Amazon (https://amzn.to/2xNGzph) so that’s what I went with and I think it looks great. The desk trash can even got a makeover.
I put these cute gold light fixtures above her bed and above her desk. We hooked her desk lights up to her Amazon Alexa so that she can turn them on and off from the comfort of her bed. The lights can be found here.
There is a window and an exterior door hidden behind these curtains. I don’t love having her bed in front of her window but the curtains help to tie everything together and provide a solid background. She can easily open them for light. These curtains come in several colors and I love the femanine pleats at the top. You can find these curtains HERE. I got the gold curtain rod from Amazon (https://amzn.to/3cPZ0bp).
Wall Paper
Let’ talk wallpaper for just a minute. I had ordered samples from several different places and ended up buying peal and stick wallpaper from Spoonflower. I loved this design and found that their wallpaper was really thick quality material. There is a texture on these walls so I wasn’t sure how this type of wallpaper would really stick, so I used a tip that I read on another site. I bought little push pins that have gold balls on the ends and pushed them into the wall in strategic spots, like where the gold lines cross. If you look closely, you can see them. I’m really glad that when we want to remove this wall paper, it will be super easy. But, if I had it to do again, I would use paste because there are some areas that have bubbled up from the wall, although most people wouldn’t notice.
I hope you were able to get some new tips and ideas for your teen bedroom update. Feel free to ask any questions you might have! The photo below is set up to save this article to Pinterest!
