We had a pleasure of fostering about 7 puppies through Lucky Lab Rescue. Although we love these cuties, we’ve had a couple of repairs to make, thanks to their puppy antics. The one I’m going to show you today is how to repair a screen door or window.

Puppy Fosters

These are the tools you’ll need to repair a screen door/window:

Screen

Spline – I like this 3 pack that I found at my Home Depot store (not online). With 3 sizes, I didn’t have to make a return trip for a different size.

Spline Roller

First, remove the old spline. This is pretty easy to do with a pair of needle nose pliers, pull the existing spline out of the groove and then the old screen will come off.

Next, cut your new screen to be a couple of inches larger than your door or window opening. Then line up the screen so that it is straight. Starting at one corner and using the spline roller, push the rubber spline into the groove around the perimeter of the door/window opening. Be sure to pull the screen tight so that you don’t end up with loose areas of screen. Sometimes it’s easier to install one side, then cut the spline. Then start the opposite side with a new piece of spline. If you do end up with an area that isn’t taught, simple pull out the spline and redo it until you’re happy with the finished product.

For just a few dollars and half an hour, you can take care of this fix-it task on your own!
