We love putting our creative energy into Kid’s Table & Chairs projects. What a fun an personal gift you can give to the little one in your life!
When our oldest was 2 years old, we got her a kid sized table & chairs for Christmas! We had trouble finding a table in our budget, so we found an unfinished table. We had lots of fun staining it and getting it ready to give to her on Christmas morning. My kids loved having this little table & chairs that were just their size to make messes on!
This little set above was a fun project we did in our furniture painting days. We painted the legs and chair backs and stained the table top and seats. We then sanded the wood to give it a worn look and sealed it up good. It can now hold up to all the fun things little kids like to do.
Our next project was unique and fun! We painted the table and chair seats and then used Mod-Podge (https://amzn.to/2Yyfyz1) to “glue” down some fun colorful wrapping paper. To finish it off, we used a really neat resin product called Amazing Clear Coat (https://amzn.to/2E3xhoi).
Amazing Clear Coat works by mixing equal parts of the two bottles and then pouring the liquid over the table so that it drips off the edges. Use a small blow torch to remove bubbles. This is way easier than is sounds! You could even use a small culinary torch (https://amzn.to/2Py78Uc) to do that job. The resin dries to a super clear and thick, hard surface. There’s lots of fun things you could do with this resin! You can use it to cover photos, thin collections, coins, the list goes on!
This last table was our latest kid’s table & chairs project we did for Julie’s niece. The table top and chair seats are finished with General Finishes Gel Stain (https://amzn.to/2scrWbK) in Java. A little sanding gives the top an aged finish and Polycrylic seals the finish.
Garage sales, Craig’s List and Facebook Market place are our favorite spots to find a little kid’s table & chairs to re-purpose. If we’ve helped to inspire you, we’d love to see your projects! Send us a message!
