An easy way to update cabinets is by adding new cabinet hardware or by changing out your existing cabinet hardware . There are so many cute styles out there, I am loving the Gold Satin that is trending right now! I’ve used the ones below in my bathroom.

I also LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these:

I don’t feel like you have to be super matchy-matchy with the hardware in your home. Mixing up your metal colors adds character and makes your design more interesting.

Adjusting the Hole Placement

But what if the cabinet hardware you love doesn’t match the holes already drilled in your cabinets??? We have a simple way to fill your current cabinet holes and re-drill them. Then you can update your cabinet hardware to whatever style you love.

First, let’s fill the current hole! Place a piece of painters tape on the backside of the hole that you’re going to fill. Not all wood-filler is that same, I like this plastic wood-filler by DAP. Just push the filler into the hole with your finger, over-filling it just a smidge.

Next, let the wood-filler dry and then sand it down smooth with the wood. Refill and sand if needed. Finally, prime the filled holes and touch up the paint.

Drilling Cabinet Hardware Holes

Cabinet hardware templates (like these) work great to drill the new holes for your pulls. Of course I always use my favorite little drill for the job. Just line up the template with the corner of your door or along the top of your drawer to get the perfect spacing. Mark your new holes and then drill the new hole using a 3/16″ drill bit, we love this little drill bit set. Make sure drill is straight up and down while making the hole.
