We love the barn door that separates our master bathroom area from our sleeping area! Our house was built in the 80’s and although having an older home brings character, there are some features that we’ve needed to find solutions for. One of those areas was the space between our master sleeping area and the bathroom vanity. Having this area open was pretty annoying when one of us wanted to sleep while the other needed the vanity light on.
We considered installing a pocket door but when talking with contractors, they discouraged us from going that route. In their experience, pocket doors don’t always slide easily. Pocket door also require the entire wall to be opened up for installation. Fortunately the barn door style became popular! This was a perfect solution for our space!
I found this door from a local antique store. It wasn’t quite the right size, so I added a wood frame to the edges and painted it all a simple cream color. Another, probably easier, option would have been to buy a new door the exact size of the opening.
I also attached some pretty antique hardware to give our door a little extra character. I found this door plate on Etsy and installed it sideways.
Finally, we installed the barn door hardware that I purchased on Amazon here (https://amzn.to/2pqACKw). This was an easy and inexpensive project that had a big impact and some much needed privacy!
